Getting to Know My International Contacts

One of the insights that I gained from studying from the website was the fact that Children in poverty are often seen as one of many disadvantaged groups, all competing for resources, or they are characterized as children with special needs such as street children orphans, or child workers (CHIP).  I would have never thought that they were a disadvantage group of children just because they were living in poverty. My way of putting it would have been to say that these children are just a little less fortunate than others and can’t have as much as some other children.

Another insight I gained was the fact that poverty can be passed on from a parent to a child (generation to generation). Normally if a child’s parent was living in poverty I would guess that they would make it their business not to end up in poverty like their parents were.  I would love it if there were more organizations out there that could take on a lot of people that were living in poverty.

One last insight I gained was the fact that the organization on this website known as CHIP funded phase is now over. Its website still remains online. The only reason why this website sticks around is because it is intended to help other organization and researchers learn about the poverty that children are faced with so that they can help out and have insight about the issue of poverty.

  1. Hello I chose the same organization. It was interesting to learn that poverty could be passed down from generation to generation. Poverty affects people in many different areas in life.

  2. It is scary to think that children who live in poverty, are at high risk of facing poverty as adults. That really puts a fire under me to do even more for our children and families. We can be that deciding factor, or that one person who can make a difference in our children's future.

  3. I found your facts very interesting. I too thought that it was interesting that poverty was passed on from generation to generation. Which makes me wonder why there is not more done to close the gap on poverty. Curious to hear how your contacts deal with this issue.

  4. Myisha,
I enjoyed reading your blog. I have learned so much after this assignment. I should not assume that children are going to be able to change their lives if they grew up in poverty. With poverty, we can not assume very much. We do need to help with finding resources that can help families.
